Red Comet’s “Criminology: Inside the Criminal Mind” launched this summer along with several new online high school electives. In today’s society, crime and deviant behavior are often one of the top concerns of society members. From the nightly news to personal experiences with victimization, crime seems to obtain top ranks in all media reporting. Several top shows on television focus on criminals and what drives them to commit the acts that society punishes them for.
Why do some individuals commit crimes but others don’t? What aspects in our culture and society promote crime and deviance? Why do individuals receive different punishments for the same crime? What factors shape the criminal case process, from arrest to punishments? These are some questions that this course asks and tries to answer. In this course, students explore the field of criminology or the study of crime. In doing so, students look at possible explanations for crime from psychological, biological, and sociological standpoints. Students evaluate the various types of crimes and their consequences for society and learn how the criminal justice system investigates and handles crimes and criminals.
Red Comet provides a comprehensive online learning program that challenges and engages students on various high school subjects including Language Arts, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and many common high school electives. The Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction has approved Red Comet as a “Multi-District Online School Program Provider,” as well as a “Multi-District Online Course Provider.” Theonline program has already seen much success in Washington State, where it has received top ratings for student satisfaction.
