Red Comet’s new online elective course “Social Problems II: Crisis, Conflicts & Challenges” is launched as part of a series of courses that were introduced to study human societies. The course deals with social sciences that study people in relation to the world, communities and culture – and analyses the factors that contribute to conflicts, struggles and issues that sometimes affect the entire world.
The Social Problems II course examines the social problems that affect individuals and societies in the world today. Students learn about the overall structure of the social problem as well as how it impacts their lives. Each unit focuses on a particular social problem, including racial discrimination, drug abuse, the loss of community, and urban sprawl, and discusses possible solutions at both individual and structural levels. Students examine the connections in each issue between societies, individuals, governments, and the global arena.
Red Comet is a high school program offered online. It is complete, rigorous and challenging. The program has been approved as both a “Multi-District Online School Program” and a “Multi-District Online Course Provider” by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in Washington State. A broad-based online program, Red Comet has received very high ratings for student satisfaction in Washington State. Online learning via this program offers students tremendous opportunities, and course material is presented in a challenging yet comprehensible manner. The online high school environment provided by Red Comet provides students a format that draws upon a variety of learning styles and techniques.
Students throughout the country use Red Comet’s high school classes that include all core subjects – Language Arts, Science, Mathematics and Social Studies, as well as numerous high school electives. A variety of students use Red Comet’s online learning program – students in need of credit recovery, students attending public high schools who cannot attend all of their high school classes, students attending private schools who are looking for electives or Advanced Placement classes, home school high school students who need help in specific subject areas, athletes, students with part-time jobs etc.
