Course Overview:

Continue your journey in the exploration of the Chinese language and the richness of its diverse cultures. In the Chinese 2 course, you will sharpen the increased listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills you acquired in Chinese 2. While oral communication remains the main focus at this level, reading and writing will receive more emphasis as well. You will dive a little deeper into the culture and apply what you learn through written practice, listening, and speaking exercises.

Semester 1:

Segment One:

  • Identify and use morning routines, school day, after-school activities, and evening routines vocabulary.
  • Identify and apply the use of the pinyin initials and finals "k," "e," "q," "ai," "u," "ju," "bu," "sh," "ao," "d," "ing," "h," "uan," "l," "ian," "c," "ong," "in," "x," "iang," "w," "iu," "an," "g," "ang," "y," "üe," and "i."
  • Compare and contrast morning routines from Chinese culture and in the United States.
  • Identify cultural, economic, religious, and political contributions of the Quin, San Guo, and Tang dynasties.
  • Identify and use home, rooms and other areas in a home, furniture, and rural living vocabulary.
  • Compare and contrast areas of the home, home activities, and meals from Chinese culture and in the United States.
  • Identify symbolism of colors and zodiac symbols in Chinese culture.
  • Identify and use weekends, shopping, clothing and accessories, sports, non-sports pastimes, and weather expressions vocabulary.
  • Compare and contrast clothing, currency, sports, pastimes, and weather expressions from Chinese culture and in the United States.
  • Identify and use question words.

  • Compare and contrast toys, fairy tales, and music from China and the United States.
  • Identify traveling locations in China.
  • Identify and use future plans, a perfect plan, travel time, what's next, and to infinity and beyond vocabulary.
  • Identify cultural, economic, religious, and political contributions of the Song, Ming, and Qin dynasties.
  • Identify careers after high school in Chinese culture.
