Red Comet announced that a revised version of a very popular elective course titled ‘Music’ is now available as part of its online curriculum. The ‘Music’ course helps students explore the intricacies and technicalities of music. Music is, in one way or the other, a part of everyone’s life. This course provides the fundamental principles for Music Appreciation. Student explores music concepts and vocabulary. The course discusses the genres and styles from various artists, cultures and times, and examines the audience participation level. This course encourages students to use music to express and present ideas and feelings and to communicate for a specific purpose.
Upon completion of this course, students develop a creative process to Music. Students learn to respond to music and express ideas and feelings on musical themes and pieces. This course explores how music impacts lifelong choices. Students explore various career paths in the field of music. As part of this course, students begin to understand and appreciate how music influences and reflects values of cultures/civilization, place and time.
“There were only a few elective courses that were offered at our public high school but none interested me. One of my friend’s mothers pointed me to Red Comet’s elective courses. I knew I wanted to take the Music course at Red Comet. The course helps students broaden their understanding of music. The topics covered helped me understand how music is a universal language. We may not be able to speak to someone from another culture or country in their language but we can always communicate our feelings through music”, said one student who took the Music course at Red Comet’s online program. “My daughter’s counselor referred us to Red Comet online program. We were happy to see the different elective courses that Red Comet offers. Our daughter loved the Music course on Red Comet and she was finally able to get all the necessary credits to graduate on time. The assignments dealt with real-life situations that a musician might encounter. The material helped her think about what she wanted to do in the field of music once she graduated from high school!” exclaimed a parent from Ohio.
“Music is a very popular course that addresses a specific interest in students. Many schools do not offer courses of this nature for either credit recovery or retrieval. When budgets are cut, some of the first courses that are dropped by schools are the electives. Elective courses help students broaden their perspectives and pursue their interest in a subject. Online programs like Red Comet offer these opportunities to students where they can learn about their favorite subject at their pace”, said Ms. Sapna Ganeshan, President of Red Comet.
“Once we launched this course, there was an overwhelming response from both the students and school officials. Students and parents were glad that they had the option to take this course online”, said Dr. Jay Srinivasan, Managing Director of Red Comet.
Red Comet is an online high school course provider approved by the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). Red Comet is fully accredited by Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC), which is part of AdvancED.
