Grade 7 Science Semester – 2

Recommended Grade Level: 7

Grade 7 Science (Middle School Comprehensive Science 2) is the second in a series of three consecutive middle school science classes. It builds on concepts introduced in the first course of the series (Grade 6 Science), including the disciplines of life science, physical science, and earth-space science. In addition, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts are integrated throughout the course.

In this semester students will learn about

  • The processes that shape the Earth and how the heat flow within Earth creates movement and change.
  • Explore how the land formations of Earth are shaped and how humans interact with the environment.
  • Learn about the electromagnetic spectrum, the phases of matter, and how organisms adapt to survive in a changing environment.
  • Explore the properties of light and investigate how light waves interact as they travel from one medium to the next.
  • Learn about biotechnology and the patterns of inheritance.
  • Investigate heredity and explore how mitosis and meiosis divide cells, passing on genetic information to create new life.
