English 11 – Semester 1

Recommended Grade Level: 11

The English Grade 11 course continues to increase and refine the students’ communication skills. Students are expected to plan, draft, and complete written compositions. They will edit their papers for clarity, engaging language, and the correct use of the conventions and mechanics of written English and produce final, error-free drafts. Students will practice all forms of writing such as business forms, reports, business memos, the narrative of procedure, the summary or abstract, and resume. Students read from multiple genres including American literature, and other works of world literature. Periods from American literature may include the pre-colonial period, colonial and revolutionary periods, romanticism and idealism, realism, naturalism, early 20th century, and late 20th century. Students interpret the possible influences of the historical context on literary work.
